These words from a simple song capture how a vocation truly begins to take shape.
Discernment isn’t about hearing a booming voice from the clouds; rather, it is an invitation to simply open the door when a gentle knock finally shakes your world.
I once heard a priest say, “Kapag tinawag ka, patay ka” (When you are called, you die). For me this is not meant to instill fear about your calling, but to serve as a profound reminder of your complete willingness, surrender, and self-offering to the Lord. During my time here in the postulancy, my discernment was deeply shaken as it unfolded what I truly want to become, knowing that a good spirit of discernment leads me to where I truly meant to be.
The phrase “let me in” represents Christ, who enters the exact moment my heart opens to Him. Here, I also learned the beauty of being open and welcoming: opening my mind, deepening my understanding, listening intently, and welcoming the new talents and abilities shared by my classmates.
In my life, I have knocked on many doors, but the door of Christ is the only one truly open to me, inviting me every day to seek Him. As I continue this journey of discernment, I end this reflection with my favorite prayer: “Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
